Getting to Know: Loop Head Community Walking Group

Loophead Community Walks are where members of the community, visitors and basically anyone who is around is welcome to meet on Sundays at a given time in a specified location (location is advertised on social media) to simply walk and talk and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Loop Head. Mags Keane answers some questions about the group here.

What would you describe as being your groups role in the community?
Our Role is to bring people together, to help combat Rural Isolation and Mental Health issues, as it says on the poster, to simply walk and talk, getting to know new people or even your neighbours.

What achievements are the group most proud of?
Achievements - we have seen older & younger people come together and join up in one group, we have seen neighbours going for walk together (who might never have taken the time before), we have had conversations with someone different in each walk, and from listening as we walk, people like to get things off their chest and is is so good for mental health.

What are the best parts of being in a group like this on Loop Head?
The best part of being in this group- is having something to look forward to, especially on a Sunday

What are the groups current challenges?
Thankfully there are no challenges for this group

In five years time, where would you like to see your group?
Working towards perhaps adding a cup of tea/coffee at end of the walks and most importantly, growing our group of friends.
Also, in 5yrs time- we d like to be Alive, Healthy and to have met new friends from a simple Sunday walk and know that we are there for someone who's lonely or going through a difficult time.

What is the best means of connecting with your group and joining the walks? Join the Loop Head Walking Group page on FACEBOOK
We also have a What's App Group
and we try to highlight where we are walking each Sunday also on the Clare Champion and the Parish Newsletter. Basically, just find out where we are meeting each Sunday and come along. You will be so very welcome!
